Fall 2025: Danya Abazari won a Faculty of Medicine Graduate Award, the Josephine Berthier Fellowship, the Elwyn Gregg Fellowship, and the DMCBH Neural Repair (Spinal Cord) Endowment Award. Isa Samad won a DMCBH General Award and his review on chromatin accessibility is published in Neural Regeneration Research. Hanna Tagomori reached PhD candidacy. Brett won a Co-op supervisor award and gave talks at Texas A&M and the ISRT Annual Meeting. Sarah Wheeler joined the lab as a postdoctoral fellow.
Summer 2025: Timo Friedman won a best poster award at the Gordon Research Conference on CNS Injury and Repair. Brett gave talks at the Brain Canada Future Leaders exchange and the BC Regenerative Medicine Symposium.
Spring 2025: Isa Samad won the Raymond A Peterson Prize in Physiology at the Cellular & Physiological Sciences department Annual Research Day for the best oral presentation. Eliana Seburn won the Translational Research Award at the ICORD Annual Meeting. Brett gave talks at Houston Methodist Research Institute and the Winter Conference on Brain Research. The lab is awarded its first CIHR Project Grant to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of corticospinal axon regeneration following spinal cord injury.
Summer 2024: Hanna Tagomori won a UBC 4 year fellowship and Isa Samad won the DMCBH Neural Repair (spinal cord) endowment. The lab has won an NSERC Discovery Grant to study how neurons lose the capacity to grow axons during development. Brett is excited to do some growth cone biology.
