Who we are: The Hilton Lab is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to understanding why adult neurons don't regenerate their axons after injury and to developing an effective regenerative strategy for the injured spinal cord. To achieve these goals, we combine bioinformatic, cellular, and molecular approaches together with models of injury and advanced microscopy techniques.

Where we're located: We are located on the 5th floor of the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre. We are a proud member of the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), a research centre of the UBC Faculty of Medicine and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) dedicated to making spinal cord injury preventable, livable, and curable.
How to apply: applicants interested in joining the lab can contact Brett via email at bhilton [at] icord.org , please ensure you provide the following information in your email:
Postdoctoral applicants: postdoc applicants should provide a CV, contact information for 3 references, and a cover letter describing your research background and future goals. Why are you interested in joining our lab and what is a project that you would be interested in pursuing in the lab?
Graduate students: students interested in conducting a MSc or PhD thesis can apply to the lab through either the Neuroscience or the Cell & Developmental Biology programs. Please email Brett with an unofficial transcript, CV, contact information for 3 references, and a cover letter explaining why you're interested in joining the lab prior to applying to the grad program itself.
Undergraduate students: We accept undergrads into the lab when they have achieved year 3 standing, a suitable project is available, and their application to the lab demonstrates a keen and specific interest in our lab's research. Please contact Brett with your unofficial transcript and a brief cover letter explaining why you're interested in doing a project in our lab. Because of the high number of applications and limited number of positions, it is very challenging for undergraduates to receive a position in our lab if they don't already have a demonstrated interest in cellular/molecular neuroscience and an average >80%.
Undergraduates at UBC begin in the lab as Direct Studies or Honours Thesis students. Directed studies projects can also occur during the summer term. Students who have already joined the lab for course credit are prioritized for summer studentships (e.g., NSERC USRA, UBC SSRP, Work/Learn, etc.). We do not take students for volunteer positions.
